FMH Receives Recommendation for an Accreditation as a Quality Breast Center

Last week, the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital (FMH) Breast Cancer Program went through a rigorous survey process by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). It was recommended by the surveyor to award the Facility accreditation for the next three (3) years!

Accreditation by the NAPBC is granted only to those centers that are voluntarily committed to providing the best possible care to patients with diseases of the breast. To receive their accreditation, FMH had to undergo a formidable evaluation and review of its performance and compliance with NAPBC standards.

NAPBC-accredited centers must demonstrate the following services: (1) a multi-disciplinary, team approach to coordinate the best case and treatment options available; (2) access to breast cancer-related information, education and support; (3) breast cancer data collection on quality indicators for all subspecialties involved in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment; (4) ongoing monitoring and improvement of care; and (5) information about clinical trials and new treatment options. Several members of the Circle of Hope team were instrumental in FMH being recognized with this honor.
