PET Scanner
Bringing PET-CT Scanning Technology to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital
A combined PET-CT (Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography) scan provides both structural and functional information, offering greater detail and a higher level of accuracy. This advanced technology enhances the visibility of soft tissue and identifies metabolic changes even before structural changes occur.

Why PET-CT Matters
For Oncology:
- Detects cancer and its spread.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of current treatments.
- Checks for recurrence.
- Differentiates between active and inactive tumors.
For Cardiac Patients:
- Reveals decreased blood flow in the heart.
- Helps providers determine the best treatment plan.
For Neurological Disorders:
- Diagnoses Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, tumors, and seizures by identifying changes in brain activity.
The Need in Fairbanks
Currently, patients in the Interior must travel to Anchorage or beyond to access PET-CT services. This can be both financially and physically challenging for many. Having a PET-CT scanner at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital would allow residents to receive top-tier care close to home, surrounded by their family and support systems.
The Campaign: Imaging for Impact
To make this a reality, Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation is raising $6 million. Your contribution will help bring this life-saving technology to our community.
