Pregnancy Bereavement

Supporting Families Through Perinatal Loss: The Pregnancy Bereavement Program

Bidding a proper farewell is essential to the grieving process, especially for families who experience the loss of a child. The Fairbanks community is a leader in acknowledging the profound impact of perinatal loss on both immediate and extended families and the importance of beginning the healing process in a compassionate, peaceful setting.

A Program Built on Compassion and Care

With inspiration from the Ragdale Family and a dedication to perinatal bereavement care, Kristy Terzi, RN-OB, BSN and the late Breanna Klann, RN developed the Pregnancy Bereavement Program. This initiative trains Women and Infant Services (WIS) nurses in the specialized care needed to support families enduring perinatal loss.

What the Program Offers

The Pregnancy Bereavement Program provides:

The Cuddle Cot:
A Precious Gift of Time

Thanks to the generosity of the Ragdale Family and community donations, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital offers grieving parents the use of a Cuddle Cot. This unique cooling device gives families the invaluable gift of extra time with their baby after loss, allowing them to say goodbye at their own pace.

Heartfelt Mementos and Support

The WIS nursing staff also provides parents with meaningful mementos, honoring both birth and loss. These keepsakes, created with care, help families cherish the memory of their baby.
